Development Bank of Kazakhstan considering project on use of biofuel in energy generation

At the moment, the first project on the use of biofuel for energy generation is under consideration by the Development Bank of Kazakhstan, the bank told Trend on March 15.

As part of supporting investment projects in the renewable energy sector, the bank offers its clients medium-term and long-term financing beginning from seven billion tenge ($16.7 million) for a period of 5 to 20 years with the client's own participation of at least 20 percent when providing a pledge worth at least 30 percent and project financing, in which assets and cash flows coming in the future within the project will be the collateral.

"The bank is a key player in financing "green" projects and already has sufficient experience in working with foreign investors on joint financing of "green" capacity of the Kazakh electric power industry," the message said. "The bank successfully cooperates with the Universal Energy international company in the implementation of the Nurgisa solar power plant (SPP) with a capacity of 100 MW in Kapshagai region of Almaty region, as well as with the German DERA GmbH company which is the investor of the "Zhylga" SPP project with a capacity of 20 MW in Turkestan region."

At the moment, the bank has six such projects worth 82 billion tenge ($195.8 million) and the facilities within all projects have been put into operation:

1. "Kaskelen 50 MW" SPP in the Zhetygen rural district of the Ile district of the Almaty region;

2. Nurgisa SPP with a capacity of 100 MW near Kapshagai town;

3. "Zhylga" photovoltaic power plant with a capacity of 20 MW in Turkestan region;

4. Turgusun HPP in the East Kazakhstan region;

5. "Astana EXPO-2017" wind power plant with a capacity of 100 MW in Arshalyn district of the Akmola region;

6. Moinak HPP with a capacity of 300 MW in the Almaty region.

Moreover, the bank stressed that the first project on the use of biofuel for energy generation and a number of other projects are under consideration.

"These are the projects such as the construction of a 50 MW wind farm in Kostanay region, 150 MW hydropower station in the East Kazakhstan region, a 100 MW solar power plant in Karaganda region and others," the bank said.
