BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 7
By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:
Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR has increased the gas supply level in Azerbaijan to 96 percent since 2005, Trend quoted SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev as saying.
“SOCAR has boosted gas supply from 55 percent to 96 percent in Azerbaijan since 2005 and from 40 percent to 82 percent in Georgia, thereby preventing the flaring of millions of tons of fuel oil,” he said.
Abdullayev pointed out that Azerbaijan accounts for 4 percent of the EU oil imports.
“We produce 40 billion cubic meters of gas per year and implement large-scale projects for gas supply in Azerbaijan and beyond,” he added.
SOCAR President went on to add that Azerbaijan has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent.
He recalled that in April 2016 Azerbaijan inked Paris agreement, a legally binding international treaty on climate change, and undertook an obligation to reduce GHG by 35 percent by 2030 as compared to 1990.
