By Leman Zeynalova - Trend:
Polish government is conducting activities to ensure the national energy security, Polish Ministry of Climate and Environment told Trend.
“Priorities are aimed at diversifying the sources of natural gas supplies, developing interconnections with neighbouring countries and expanding national gas network. The underground storage capacities have also increased. The key diversification projects currently being implemented are: construction of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline, gas interconnections with Lithuania and Slovakia, expansion of the functioning LNG terminal in Świnoujście as well as concept of a new FSRU LNG terminal in Gdańsk Bay,” said the ministry.
The Climate and Environment Ministry said that in Poland the crucial safety measure to ensure the supplies in case of possible crisis situations or sudden gas demand increase is the maximum possible filling of underground gas storage facilities before the winter season.
“Therefore, also this year, facilities were almost 100 percent full before the beginning of winter season. Poland is consistently emphasizing the importance of natural gas stocks as well as assurance of adequate storage capacities in ongoing discussions on the European Union level,” the ministry said.
