The specific parameters of the future nuclear power plant in Kyrgyzstan haven’t yet been determined, the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) told Trend.

Within the framework of the Expo 2020 World Exhibition in Dubai, where a presentation of Russian low-power nuclear technologies was held on January 20, 2022, Rosatom and the Kyrgyz Energy Ministry signed a memorandum on cooperation in the construction of low-power nuclear plants.

According to the corporation, in the document the parties expressed interest in developing cooperation on the construction of a low-power nuclear plant in Kyrgyzstan.

"The specific parameters of this project will be known after the completion of consultations and multi-stage negotiations between the two parties. The signed memorandum is based on the Framework Intergovernmental Agreement of 2012, which defines the basic principles of cooperation between Russia and Kyrgyzstan in the field of peaceful use of atomic energy," the corporation stressed.

Low-power nuclear plants are the optimal solution for stable and environmentally friendly energy supply to consumers located in areas remote from the central power grids, as well as for replacing aging power generation capacities.

Moreover, the plants are able to ensure uninterrupted supply of critical infrastructure facilities, regardless of weather and climatic conditions.

Thus, countries that include nuclear generation in their energy balance contribute to the carbon-free energy of the future and ensure their own energy security.
