BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 29. A total of 401,411 tons of oil have been transshipped from the port of Novorossiysk since January 1, 2022 to date, the Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR told Trend.

"The sides agree on the volume of transportation as needed," the company said.

Baku-Novorossiysk transports Caspian oil to Russia’s Black Sea port of Novorossiysk. The total length of the oil pipeline is 1,330 kilometers with 231 kilometers running through Azerbaijan. SOCAR is the operator of Azerbaijani part of the pipeline.

The company’s oil exports via this route stood at 1.1 million tons in 2021, versus 0.6 million tons in 2020.

Earlier, Reuters reported citing its own sources that Azerbaijan has decided not to ship oil via Russia in May and to reroute it to Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline.

Azerbaijan decided not to ship oil via Russia in May due to commercial reasons caused by an uneasy geopolitical situation over the war in Ukraine and Western sanctions imposed on Moscow, said the sources.
