BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 13. Prices for gasoline and diesel fuel rose 4 percent in Kazakhstan since the beginning of the year, Trend reports with reference to Energyprom.kz monitoring agency.

Gasoline and diesel production grows in Kazakhstan. The production of motor fuel amounted to 1.6 million tons (a 4-percent increase) from January through April 2022 compared to the same period of 2021. Sector is growing for the seventh year in a row.

Diesel fuel production shows growth for the second year in a row, reaching 1.7 million tons from January through April 2022 (8.4 percent more than a year earlier). Kazakhstan has imposed a ban on the export by road of gasoline, diesel fuel, certain types of other petroleum products, in order to prevent the shortage of oil products on local market.

The ban was in effect for six months from May 21, 2021 and was subsequently extended until May 21 this year. Kazakh Energy Ministry plans to prolong the ban on the export of oil products from the territory of Kazakhstan by the end of 2022.

There was no export in the motor fuel sector in the first quarter of 2022, while in the same period 2021, more than 100,000 tons of products were sent to foreign markets. More than 100,000 tons of products were exported in the same period of 2021.

Imports amounted to only 25.1 tons in the first quarter of 2022, which, however, is 84 percent more than last year. As a result, 1.2 million tons of motor fuel were sold on local market during first quarter 2022 - 13.9 percent more than from January through March 2021.

Diesel fuel imports decreased by 15.3 percent year on year (to 23,000 tons) in first quarter this year. Exports fell six times, to only 17,600 tons. A total of 1.2 million tons of diesel fuel were sold in local market from January through March 2022 (18.3 percent more than in the same period last year).

Gasoline prices increased by 4.7 percent at the end of May 2022, compared to May last year. Growth in corresponding period is noted for the third year in a row. Prices for diesel fuel jumped immediately by 41.5 percent, while cheaper prices were observed for two years in a row.

Summer diesel fuel has risen in price by 24.6 percent over the year, RON-98 fuel - by 9.6 percent, RON-95/96 - by 9.1 percent, RON-92 - by 4.2 percent.

Average retail prices for RON-92 fuel amounted to 178 tenge (40 cents) per liter in May this year, for RON-95/96 fuel - 210 tenge (48 cents) per liter, for RON-98 fuel - 232 tenge (53 cents) per liter, for summer diesel fuel - 234 tenge (54 cents) per liter.

RON-92 fuel was the most expensive in Petropavlovsk (182 tenge - 41 cents per liter), RON-95/96 - in Almaty (215 tenge – 49 cents per liter), RON-98 - in Kostanay (238 tenge – 54 cents per liter) regions.

The cheapest gasoline was in Atyrau: RON-92 fuel - 168 tenge (38 cents) per liter, RON-95/96 - 201 tenge (46 cents) per liter, RON-98 - 227 tenge (52 cents) per liter. RON-95/96 cost the same (201 tenge – 46 cents per liter) in Aktau, in Karaganda and Uralsk - RON-98 (227 tenge – 52 cents per liter).
