BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 27. As many as 6 new power units with a total generation capacity of 1,026 megawatt-hours of electricity have been put into Iran on October 27, 2022, Trend reports referring to the Iranian Energy Ministry.

According to the report, the Arian Thermal Power Plant in Zanjan Province (western Iran) was officially launched. Thus, 2 new gas units with a generation capacity of 183 megawatt-hours each have been put into operation at this station.

Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi attended the opening ceremony of the Arian TPP.

Furthermore, the 2nd steam unit of Ferdowsi TPP with a generation capacity of 160 megawatt-hours was put into operation in Mashhad, Razavi Khorasan Province (north-eastern Iran).

At the same time, one steam unit with a generation capacity of 180 megawatt-hours was put into operation at the Heris TPP of the East Azerbaijan Province (north-western Iran).

One of the power units launched in the country today is the 3rd steam unit of Jahrom TPP in Fars Province (southern Iran). The mentioned steam unit has the capacity to generate 160 megawatt-hours of electricity.

The 2nd steam unit of the Urmia TPP in West Azerbaijan Province (north-western Iran) is also among the newly launched power units in Iran. It is reported that the unit has the capacity to generate 160 megawatt-hours of electricity.

The ministry said that putting the mentioned power units into use will allow for saving more than 1 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

Before the power units were put into use, the total capacity of Iran's power plants (thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, and so on) was 89,365 megawatt-hours.

Of this, 81 percent or 72,614 megawatt-hours were accounted for the country’s thermal power plants, as well as 13.6 percent or 12,087 megawatt-hours for hydroelectric power plants, 1.1 percent or 1,020 megawatt-hours for nuclear power plants, and 4.1 percent or 3,644 megawatt-hours for renewable energy power plants and etc.
