Azerbaijan increases petroleum coke exports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 21. Azerbaijan exported 179,600 tons of petroleum coke worth $49 million from January through July 2023, Trend reports.

This indicator is 2.97 times greater in value year over year and 2.3 times higher in quantitative terms, according to a calculation based on data from the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan.

Between January and July of last year, Azerbaijan exported 77,900 tons of petroleum coke for a total value of $16 million.

Petroleum coke represented 0.24 percent of the total exports of the nation.

Prior to this, Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover increased by 0.91 percent, or $274 million, from January through July 2023 year over year (from $30.058 billion to $30.333 billion).

According to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, exports accounted for $20 billion in the structure of foreign trade turnover, which is $1 billion or 7 percent less than in the same period last year. The share of exports in the foreign trade turnover amounted to 68 percent, compared to 75 percent a year earlier.

Azerbaijan's imports from January through July 2023 increased by $2 billion, or 27 percent (from $7 billion to about $9 billion) year-on-year. The share of imports in the foreign trade turnover amounted to 31 percent, compared with 24 percent a year earlier.

As a result, the balance of foreign trade turnover, while remaining positive in the reporting period, declined year-on-year by over $3 billion, or 25 percent, to $11 billion against $15 billion in the 2022 reporting period.
