Volume of problem loans in Azerbaijan declines

The volume of problem loans in Azerbaijan decreased by 25.9 percent or 373.4 million manat ($219.6 million) from January through October 2020 compared to the same period of 2020, amounting to 1.07 billion manat ($629.4 million), Trend reports citing the statistical bulletin of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to the CBA, the total loan portfolio of the banking sector and non-bank credit organizations increased by 4.4 percent, amounting to 14.8 billion manat ($8.7 billion).

The share of state-owned banks in issued loans amounted to 2.64 billion manat ($1.55 billion) or 17.8 percent of the total portfolio, private banks - 11.8 billion manat ($6.9 billion) or 79.7 percent, NBCOs - 376.6 million manat ($221.5 million) or 2.5 percent.

The volume of loans issued in national currency in September 2020 was 10.2 billion manat ($6 billion), an increase of 8.9 percent compared to September 2019, and their share in the loan portfolio of banks was 68.7 percent.

In foreign currency, loans were issued in the amount of 4.66 billion in manat equivalent ($2.74 billion), an annual decrease of 4.2 percent, with a specific weight of 31.3 percent.

The volume of short-term loans amounted to 1.74 billion manat ($1.02 billion) in national currency and 729 million manat ($428.8 million) in foreign currency. The volume of long-term loans amounted to 8.5 billion manat ($5 billion) and 3.93 billion manat ($2.31 billion).
