Number of Internet users in Kazakhstan exceeds 5 million

The number of Internet users in Kazakhstan as of 2009 amounted to over 5 million people, the press service of the Kazakh Agency for Informatization and Communications reported.

"The Agency carries out monthly monitoring of the development of the Internet services in Kazakhstan. According to available data, in 2009 the number of Internet users is 5,151,847," the press-service said.

The department said that over 3 million are users of mobile Internet, 1,367,786 people - users of broadband Internet and 433,418 users of dial-up access to the Internet.

According to the Agency, as of January 1, 2010 about 7,183 of 7,605 schools (about 95 percent) are connected to the Internet in Kazakhstan. In 2009 about 210 schools, 92 - in rural areas were connected to broadband services.
