The raids in cellular retail market of Baku are delayed for an indefinite period, a source in the market told Trend.
This issue isn’t yet relevant due to the lack of more effective regulatory mechanisms, according to the source.
“Official suppliers of mobile devices appealed to the tax ministry with a proposal to conduct raids,” the source said. “However, as practice has shown, it is extremely difficult to track down the illegal import of mobile devices, and therefore, the measures envisaged earlier had to be delayed.”
The fees that entered into force last August for registration of IMEI codes set fixed duties on mobile phones depending on their cost and model. Thanks to the measures taken, the share of grey market was reduced by half.
