Azerbaijani Republican Seismic Survey Center eyes to install new stations

The Republican Seismic Survey Center of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) plans to install five new stations, a source in the Republican Seismic Survey Center told Trend Dec. 18.

The work is underway and the places for the location of stations have already been selected, according to the source. After completion of this work, commissioning will begin.

In addition, 17 temporary seismic stations were set up in several Azerbaijani districts under the Caucasian Transect project, implemented with the joint participation of the Republican Seismic Survey Center of Azerbaijan, Ukrainian Educational and Scientific Center, the US Department of Energy, and the Center for Seismological Monitoring at the Ilia Chavchavadze Georgian State University.

There are 35 permanent seismic stations located in certain Azerbaijani districts. In addition, there are seven mobile seismic stations, 22 GPS, six geophysical and five geochemical stations. The data obtained from these stations are processed using high-tech programs, and based on the data obtained, complex seismological, geophysical, geochemical and geodynamic studies are carried out.
