BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 9. This week it became known that the Nokia company will open a laboratory at the Azerbaijan Technical University, Trend reports.

The laboratory will be fully equipped by Nokia. At the initial stage, about 800 students and teachers of the Department of Radio Engineering and Communications of the university will be instructed in the operation of the equipment.

Furthermore, it became known that it is planned to complete the integration of all mail services of Azerbaijan's state structures into a Centralized Electronic System by the end of 2023. Currently, the Zibra service maintains about 30,000 users of 250 government agencies on more than 500 domain names. Integration into this network of government agencies that do not use the secure Centralized Electronic System will be completed by the end of this year.

In addition, it was noted this week that Kaspersky Lab blocked about a million redirects to phishing sites in Azerbaijan in 2022. The majority, or 60 percent, fell on home users, and 40 percent on corporate users. Kaspersky's cybersecurity solutions cover not only the corporate segment but also home users.

According to the surveys conducted by the company, in 2022, there was a growing trend of online fraud and social engineering. This type of cyberattack involves obtaining payment data and other personal information through fraud. This data is used for the theft of money or for further attacks. Users have very often encountered scammers on social networks and messengers.

The most common targets of cybercriminals are the elderly, as well as small and medium-sized companies (SMEs). The elder generation, as practice shows, is more gullible and willing to pass their payment card data, SMS codes, security codes to a third party, which eventually leads to loss of funds. Younger audience, due to the fact that it is more tech-savvy, is more informed and less vulnerable to possible risks.

In the corporate segment, SMEs are most exposed to cyber attacks. The budget of these companies for information security solutions is limited or non-existent. All this, certainly, creates risks and leads to cyber incidents.

On the other hand, even if large companies allocate a large amount of funds to protect their digital environment, this does not mean that they are fully protected. Cybercriminals are interested in large companies, since these companies operate with great funds. Taking all this into calculation, big companies introduce advanced solutions to prevent cyber attacks, the loss of their data, as well as to retain their reputation and customers.

Also, Kaspersky Lab does not recommend holders of salary and pension cards use them as a source of online payments. The company suggests getting a separate bank card (physical or digital) and using it during the implementation of payments in a digital environment.

During the pandemic, there was a sudden shift in the Azerbaijani population to digital payments. For the first time, lots of bank card users were not prepared enough for this process and therefore encountered various problems. The separate bank card for online payments will minimize the risks of losing money in the event that card data is lost.
