Russian airline suffers significant losses after flights ban to Georgia

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 19

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Russia's Ural Airlines lost a billion rubles due to the suspension of flights between the Russian Federation and Georgia, said General Director of Ural Airlines Sergey Skuratov, Trend reports citing Russian media outlets.

According to him, the last flights between Russia and Georgia took place on July 7.

Since July 8, air traffic between the countries has been stopped. The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation stated the issue of compensation to air carriers for the termination of flights may be considered.

“We did not sell tickets worth 1 billion rubles ($15.6 million),” said Skuratov.

Against the backdrop of the aggravation of Russian-Georgian relations in June 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree prohibiting Russian airlines from transporting citizens from Russia to Georgia from July 8. In addition, Russian tour operators and agents were recommended not to sell tickets to this country.

Ural Airlines is a Russian passenger airline engaged in regular and charter domestic and international flights with headquarters in Yekaterinburg.
