Georgia, Azerbaijan set tariffs for oil transit from Turkmenistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 13

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Georgia and Azerbaijan have agreed on tariffs for oil transit from Turkmenistan, Trend reports citing the website of the Georgian Railway.

On February 13, 2020, a meeting of the managers of the Georgian and Azerbaijan Railways was held in Tbilisi.

The meeting was also attended by state and private companies participating in the regional logistics chain - the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company, the Baku International Sea Trade Port, and oil terminals in Batumi and Dubendi.

"The parties agreed on permanent seasonal and end-to-end tariffs for transportation on the Volga-Don sea route, so that this route would become competitive," the statement says.

As a result of intensive discussions on these issues, negotiations were successfully completed. At the end of the meeting, a protocol was signed and plans for further cooperation were outlined.

Turkmenistan became the largest supplier of aviation kerosene to Georgia in 2019.

In 2019, Turkmenistan sent more than 40,000 tons of jet fuel to Georgia, which amounted to 40 percent of the total volume of Georgian aviation fuel imports.

Aviation kerosene purchased by Georgia is produced at the Turkmenbashi complex of oil refineries.
