Loading-unloading of cargo in ports of Iran's Gilan Province expands

The loading and unloading of cargo in the ports of Gilan Province (northern Iran) has increased by 42 percent since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020) to date, compared to the same period last Iranian year, said Hamid Reza Abaei, Director General of Ports and Maritime Affairs of Gilan Province, Trend reports citing Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO).

The director general emphasized that 1.3 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded in the ports of Gilan Province.

He added that the loading and unloading of cargo in the Anzali port in Gilan Province increased by 33 percent and in the Astara port - by 51 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year.

Abaei noted that the exports through the Anzali port increased by 29 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year. The exported goods were mainly chemicals, construction materials, glass materials, concentrate, fruit, bitumen, polystyrene and so on.

According to him, the number of ships docked to the Anzali port increased by 24 percent, while to the Astara port - by 46 percent.

The director general said that the grain capacity of Anzali port will increase from 100,000 tons to 200,000 tons with the implementation of a plan.
