Volume of cargo transported via Iran's Khorasan railways grows

The volume of cargo transported through railways under the Khorasan Railway Administration of Iran increased by 18 percent in the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), compared to the preceding Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 through March 19, 2020), Director General of the administration Mostafa Nasseri Varg said, Trend reports citing the administration’s website.

The director general noted that a total of 1.8 million tons of cargo were transported to domestic and international directions through the railways under the administration.

Varg added that about 1 million tons of transported cargo were related to exports. This is an increase of 20 percent compared to the preceding year. These cargo were mainly transported to Central Asia and the countries in the south of Iran.

“The transported goods were mainly were sulfur, chemicals, construction materials and iron products,” he said.

According to the official, in addition, 2.3 million tons of goods were unloaded at the stations under the Khorasan Railway Administration in order to supply raw materials, equipment, and so on to manufacturing enterprises in the last year. This is an increase of 76 percent compared to the preceding year.
