Passenger transportation indicators plummet in Kazakhstan

A total of 463.3 million passengers were transported in Kazakhstan by all means of transport in Mar. 2021, which is 73 percent less than in Mar. 2020, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Statistics Committee.

In turn, the volume of passengers transported over three months of 2021 amounted to 1.2 billion people, which is 76.6 percent less year-on-year compared to 5.3 billion over the same period of last year.

Thus, the majority of the passengers were transported to Kazakhstan’s Almaty city. The number of passengers transported in the city amounted to 124.08 million people in March and 352.2 million people over three months of 2021, which is 67.1 percent and 70.3 percent less than during the same period last year, respectively.

Almaty city is followed by the Kostanay region with 42.1 million people transported in Mar. 2021 (a decrease of 69.1 percent compared to Mar. 2020). The number of passengers transported in the region during the reporting period amounted to 112.6 million people, which compared to 428.5 million during the same period last year, indicates a 73.7-percent decrease.

Pavlodar region takes third place country-wide by the passengers transported in Mar. 2021 (41.08 million people, down by 58.5 percent). The number of passengers transported in the region over the period from Jan. through Mar. 2021 amounted to 111.4 million, which is 62.3 percent less than during the same period last year (295.6 million people).

The least passenger volume was transported in the Mangystau region. The transported passenger volume stood at 2.1 million passengers in Mar. 2021, which is 66.3 percent less than in Mar. 2020. The volume of passengers transported over three months of 2021 was 5.6 million, which is 71.8 percent less year-on-year.
