Volume of cargo loaded, unloaded in Iran’s Astara port surges

The volume of cargo loaded and unloaded in the Astara port of the Gilan Province (northern Iran) increased by 55 percent in the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), compared to the preceding Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 through March 19, 2020), Trend reports citing the statistics of Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO).

According to the statistics, 233,000 tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded in the port over last Iranian year. Of this, 153,000 tons were loaded and 79,800 tons were unloaded.

"Furthermore, 143,000 tons of cargo were exported and 47,600 tons were imported through the Astara port during last Iranian year," the statistics said.

At the same time, 7,800 tons of cargo were loaded and 32,100 tons were unloaded in the port for transit, the statistics said.

According to the statistics, 57 tons of cargo were unloaded in the Astara port for transshipment, 2,910 tons were loaded for other purposes.

"So, 23,300 tons of essential products, 1,230 tons of metal products, 80,700 tons of construction and mining materials were loaded and unloaded in the Astara port last Iranian year," the statistics said.

Moreover, 588 tons of equipment, vehicles, spare parts, 89,100 tons of chemicals, 16,400 tons of leather goods, clothing, wood materials, 157 tons of small and assorted products, 6,640 tons of container products, 15,200 tons of oil products, 10 tons of other products were loaded and unloaded in this port, the statistics said.

Reportedly, a total of 123 million tons of goods were loaded and unloaded in Iranian ports last Iranian year. This is a decrease of 18.1 percent compared to the preceding year. So, 150 million tons of goods were loaded and unloaded in Iranian ports in the preceding year.
