Iran sees increase in passenger transportation via railways

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 19

The number of passengers transported by railways in Iran increased by 110 percent, during the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through December 21, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Trend reports via the report of Iranian Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.

According to the report, a total of 14.7 million passengers were transported in the country via railways within the mentioned period.

Meanwhile, in the same period last Iranian year, the figure stood at 7 million. About 14.5 percent of passenger transportation in the country was carried out by railways.

In total, 2,145 passenger wagons were used in 9 months. The figure amounted to 2,130 in the same period last Iranian year.

The length of railway lines in Iran is 15,040 kilometers, of which, 11,738 kilometers main railway lines, while 3,312 kilometers – external railway lines.
