BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 27. Cargo transit through Iran increased by 5.22 percent, during the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through February 19, 2023), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Director General of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Mohammad Rezvanifar said, Trend reports citing the administration.

The director general noted that over 12 million tons of cargo were transited through Iran in 11 months.

He said that Iran is taking a number of steps in the direction of simplifying the rules for cargo transit through the country and supporting cargo transit.

Generally, Iran's foreign trade turnover amounted to about 145 million tons worth approximately $103 billion in 11 months.

Reportedly, Iran attaches great importance to the International North-South and East-West corridors. It intends to further increase cargo transit via the country by improving railway lines within the mentioned corridors.
