ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, February 6. Russia plans to participate in the development of two promising transport corridors, one of which passes through Turkmenistan's Turkmenbashi International Seaport, Trend reports.
This was stated by Vadim Ganin, Director General of the CIS Business Center for Economic Development Association, at the second meeting of the CIS Transport Business Dialogue.
One of them is the creation of a multimodal corridor Russia - Caspian Sea – Turkmenistan – Uzbekistan –Kyrgyzstan or the Southern Transport Corridor.
At first, containers from Kyrgyzstan are supposed to be delivered to Turkmenbashi seaport by heavy trucks, and then by ferries to the Russian Astrakhan city, where there are several dozen terminals capable of receiving various cargoes.
Furthermore, if the interstate project enters the implementation stage, a logistics center will be created in the port special economic zone of Turkmenistan, where goods from Kyrgyzstan will be stored before being shipped to Russia, and the parties will open a regular shipping line for cargo carriers.
At the same time, the second project is the creation of the Trans–Afghan Corridor, initiated by Uzbekistan back in 2021, which should link the EU, Belarus, Russia, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and further Southeast Asian states.
Meanwhile, Turkmenistan, striving for active participation in the global economic space, shows considerable interest in the development of international transport corridors.
This strategy is based on the country's desire to expand its trade opportunities, improve ties with the regions of Asia and Europe, and strengthen its geopolitical role
