Kazakh Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov held a government meeting on Thursday at which he gave a number of instructions for the implementation of projects in his speech as head of state at the meeting on January 23, the press service of the head of government said.

As a part of addressing infrastructure problems, Serik Akhmetov ordered to submit a proposal on construction of high-speed railways between Astana-Almaty, Astana-Aktau, Astana-Ust-Kamenogorsk. He also ordered the continuation of the active construction of Zhezkazgan-Beineu and Arkalyk-Shubarkol rail lines, the acceleration and implementation of the second and third phases of the project to expand the Aktau port and the start of construction of the Tobol-Kokshetau-Astana gas pipeline in 2013.

Ministry of the Environment Protection was instructed to develop and submit a draft concept of EXPO 2017 to the State Commission. Samruk-Kazyna Fund and city administration of Astana were ordered to make proposals on a pilot project of building a 'green district' in the capital and the national company "Astana EXPO-2017" and city administration of Astana were entrusted to hold an international competition to develop a master plan and architectural design of exhibition complex.

In addition, the city administration of Astana will develop a program of rebranding, while Industry Energy and Samruk-Kazyna will develop proposals for the supply of electricity to EXPO-2017 through alternative energy sources.

"The efficient and full implementation of the President's instructions is our priority goal. A lot of fair criticism was voiced yesterday, we have to draw conclusions and eliminate these deficiencies. The first leaders of the reorganized government agencies need to bring the organizational period to an end as soon as possible and immediately begin executing presidential orders, "Akhmetov said.
