BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 25. Solution of the problems of fish farms should be approached with caution, based on the principle of conservation and rational use of fish resources, the Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Serikkali Brekeshev said, Trend reports via the press service of the Ministry.

"A Meeting of specialists in the fishing industry was held at the Ministry. The meeting was attended by fishermen from different regions of the republic, which raised a number of industry issues," the minister said.

Caspian fishermen raised the issue of using monofilament fishing nets with a thread diameter of 0.3 mm or more. A decision on this issue would be made before the end of May 2022, the minister noted.

“Kazakh Fisheries Scientific Research Institute will conduct relevant research from April through May of this year and we will make a decision at the end of May. In case of absence of a direct negative impact on fish resources, it is possible to allow the use of these networks in a pilot mode on large reservoirs for up to two years by making appropriate changes to the legislation within three to four months,” Serikkali Brekeshev said.

The issue of increasing the limit for catching pike-perch on Balkhash Lake was also raised at the meeting.

It is possible to consider an increase in the pike-perch catch limit after making changes to the methodology for determining the fish catch limit and this issue can be finally resolved by June 2023, the minister noted.

The issue of access to the reservoir for commercial fishing and obtaining a fishing permit by individuals living in the coastal zone was also raised at the meeting.
