BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 30. Kazakhstan Temir Zholy national company (Kazakhstan Railways) has signed an agreement with French ALSTOM Transport SA on the production of electric locomotives, Trend reports, citing the press service of the President of Kazakhstan.

The deal was signed during an official visit of President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to France.

According to the agreement, some 245 electric locomotives will be produced at the Kazakhstan Electric locomotive assembly plant (EKZ) from 2023 through 2029.

The deal will be carried out within the cooperation between the French Finance Ministry, the state export-import agency BPI France, and the Société Générale bank, which will subsidize the interest rate.

Meanwhile, the agreement will eliminate the shortage of electric locomotives, in addition to ensuring that Kazakh shippers receive better service.
