Kazakhstan's transportation sector demonstrates slight growth

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 7. A total of 307.8 million tons of cargo were transported by all modes of transport in Kazakhstan from January through April 2023, marking a slight increase of 0.2 percent compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.

According to the country's Bureau of National Statistics, the freight turnover during this period amounted to 165.7 billion ton-kilometers, reflecting a growth of 1.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

Passenger transportation also demonstrated significant progress, with a total of 506.7 million passengers carried, representing a notable increase of 13.2 percent compared to the previous year. The passenger turnover reached 22 billion passenger kilometers, showing a substantial growth of 21.3 percent compared.

From January through April 2023, there has been an increase in freight turnover observed in several cities and regions, including Shymkent (53.6 percent), Almaty (36.9 percent), Astana (22.2 percent), as well as East Kazakhstan (39.3 percent), Pavlodar (29.7 percent), and North Kazakhstan (15.5 percent) regions.
