ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 16. Container cargo turnover between Kazakhstan and China exceeded 6.5 million containers over this decade, while volumes in the China-Europe-China direction grew more than 100 times (from 7,600 in 2013 to 790,000 containers in 2022), Trend reports.

This was stated during the departure of a container train from the city of Xi’an (China), dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the "One Belt, One Road" initiative. The train will follow the Silk Road through Kazakhstan to the countries of Central Asia.

The container train was organized by a joint venture of Kedentransservice JSC (a subsidiary of Kazakhstan Railways) and the international dry port of Xi'an - China-Kazakhstan Trade and Logistics Company LLC, under whose auspices the construction of a cargo terminal in Xi'an is underway.

10 years ago, Chinese President Xi Jinping in Astana first put forward the initiative to build the Silk Road Economic Belt. As part of the implementation of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative, the city of Xi’an has become the most important transport hub, which consolidates and processes a significant part of a wide range of goods from almost all regions of the PRC.

The uninterrupted operation of trains from the city of Xi'an in a wide range of destinations will give an additional impetus to the expansion of the transit and transport potential of the two countries. As part of the "One Belt, One Road" initiative, 90 percent of trains pass through Kazakhstan.

In 2022, Kazakhstan’s trade turnover with China amounted to $24.1 billion, which is 34.1 percent more than a year earlier.

Exports from Kazakhstan increased over the year by 34.7 percent, to $13.2 billion.

The share of Kazakhstan's exports to China accounted for a significant 15.6 percent of the country's total trade turnover.

Imports from China to Kazakhstan grew by 33.5 percent over the year, to $11 billion.

China's share in the structure of imports of the Republic of Kazakhstan amounted to 21.9 percent.
