ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 2. Kazakhstan has begun construction of a new railway line from Ayagoz station to Bakhty station as part of the creation of the third railway crossing between Kazakhstan and China, Trend reports.
This was stated during a meeting between the Vice Minister of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan Talgat Lastayev and the Deputy Minister of Transport of the People's Republic of China Li Yang on the sidelines of the first SCO International Transport Forum in Tashkent (Uzbekistan).
The deputy ministers discussed the construction of a section of the Alashankou-Dostyk highway on neutral territory (from the checkpoint to the state border) and the third railway crossing between Kazakhstan and China in the area of the Bakhty-Tacheng road checkpoint.
The meeting also discussed implementation of cooperation agreements on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, signed in October 2023, as well as the agreement between the governments of the SCO member states on creating favorable conditions for direct international road transport from 2014.
Kazakhstan and China plan to build the third cross-border railway between the countries.
In this regard, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the State Committee for Development and Reform of the People's Republic of China on the joint development of cooperation on the Ayagoz-Tacheng railway construction project.
This Memorandum involves the construction of a railway line from the Kazakh city of Ayagoz to the Chinese city of Tacheng and the construction of a specific third railway checkpoint between Kazakhstan and China.
