Kazakhstan changing work principle of all CHP plants in Almaty

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 7. Kazakhstan is carrying out modernization work at combined heat and power plants (CHP plnats) of Almaty, said Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Almassadam Satkaliyev, Trend reports.

As he noted, all three CHP plants are planned to be switched to gas. In particular, the project for the switch of Almaty CHP plant - 1 involves the expansion of the station with the installation of combined cycle units with a total capacity of up to 225 MW.

"The project is planned for 2025-2028," he said.

In addition, the minister noted that at Almaty CHP plant - 2 a project is being implemented to modernize the station with minimizing the impact on the environment and the construction of a new station based on a combined cycle units with a capacity of up to 557 MW.

"The project for the switch of Almaty CHP plant - 3 involves the expansion of the station with the installation of combined cycle units with a total capacity of 545 MW," he said.

The minister pointed out that starting from 2026, the complete switch of CHP plant - 2 and CHP plant - 3 to gas will begin in stages.

Three combined heat and power plants provide heat and electricity to consumers in the city of Almaty and the Almaty region of Kazakhstan.
