ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 27. The capacity of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TMTM or Middle Corridor) could increase in the near future, Victor Aragones, Senior Transport Economist of the World Bank (WB), said, Trend reports.

The World Bank has conducted a study around the potential for expanding the Middle Corridor. The study was focused on three countries: Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia. In the study, the World Bank made recommendations for further assistance in the development of this route

"Key takeaways - if the right investments and strategic decisions are made, trade could triple by 2030 to 11 million tons," he said.

As he noted, the development of the Middle Corridor will also contribute to the diversification of trade in Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Georgia.

The Middle Corridor is a transportation and trade route that connects Asia and Europe, passing through several countries in the region. It is an alternative route to the traditional Northern Corridor and Southern Corridor.

The route starts in China and crosses Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. It then passes through the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye before reaching Europe.

The Middle Corridor offers a land route that connects the eastern parts of Asia, including China, with Europe, bypassing the longer maritime routes.
