ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 5. Kazakhstan is modernizing 45 of the country's 52 vehicle checkpoints, said Vice Minister of Transport Satzhan Ablaliyev at a government meeting, Trend reports.
Modernization efforts are synchronized with neighboring countries as part of the Road Maps framework.
To increase the capacity of the checkpoints, the Ministry of Transport has developed a number of measures. In particular, it is proposed to switch to a round-the-clock operating mode for checkpoints with high intensity. It is also proposed to establish a unified database with the regulatory authorities of neighboring countries for the one-time submission of documents by carriers.
According to the vice minister, all this will allow for a fourfold increase in the throughput capacity of the checkpoints and a reduction in inspection time to 20 minutes.
"Overall, road transportation in Kazakhstan is one of the key sectors of the economy. Some 370 Kazakh carriers are currently involved in international long-distance transportation. Their total fleet is 7,600 vehicles," he said.
The volume of cargo transportation by road in Kazakhstan amounted to 5.5 million tons from January through September 2023. Thus, compared to the same period in 2022, the volume of transportation increased by 22 percent. The share of local operators in cargo transportation is 42 percent.
An increase was also registered in transit transportation. In the nine months of 2023, the volume of transit cargo transportation amounted to 3.6 million tons, which is 44 percent more than the same period last year (2.5 million tons).
