ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 12. The volume of cargo transportation through the seaports of Kazakhstan amounted to 6.5 million tons from January through November 2023, said Transport Minister Marat Karabayev during a government meeting, Trend reports.
This figure exceeds the same period in 2022 by 10 percent.
As the minister noted, this volume is dominated by the export transportation of Kazakhstani goods in the direction of European countries.
The Kazakh merchant fleet has 20 vessels, including 2 tankers that transport oil in the Black and Mediterranean Seas, 4 bulk carriers, 3 container ships, and 11 tankers operating in the Caspian Sea.
Two of the tankers operating in the Caspian Sea were purchased this year by a joint company created by KazMunayGas JSC (Kazakhstan's national oil and gas company) and Emirati Abu Dhabi Ports.
Furthermore, Kazakhstan has two ports on the Caspian Sea: the port of Aktau and the port of Kuryk.
The total cargo turnover of the Aktau port amounted to 3.785 million tons from January through October 2023, which is 22 percent more than the same period in 2022 (3.109 million tons).
Based on the results of work for 10 months in 2023, the port of Kuryk processed 599 ferries. The volume of transshipment during the mentioned period amounted to 1.807 million tons.
Of these, 1.24 million tons are railway-related (16,450 railcars), and 566,000 tons (23,652 units) have to do with road transport (trucks and passenger vehicles).
