ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 12. Dredging work in the Kazakhstan's Kyryk port will be completed by July 2024, said Transport Minister Marat Karabayev during a government meeting, Trend reports.
After completion of work in Kuryk port, dredging work is planned to begin in Aktau port.
As the minister noted, private terminals on the Caspian coast also need dredging, but there are no budget funds to spend on that.
In order to develop the port infrastructure, the possibility of providing state support is being considered.
The excavated ground after dredging will be used for further expansion of terminal capacities. With their help, new territories with an area of about 170 hectares will be created at the ports.
Kazakhstan is negotiating with Abu Dhabi Ports, Rhenus and Shandong port on promising areas.
Furthermore, Kazakhstan has two ports on the Caspian Sea: the port of Aktau and the port of Kuryk.
The total cargo turnover of the Aktau port amounted to 3.785 million tons from January through October 2023, which is 22 percent more than the same period in 2022 (3.109 million tons).
Based on the results of work for 10 months in 2023, the port of Kuryk processed 599 ferries. The volume of transshipment during the mentioned period amounted to 1.807 million tons.
Of these, 1.24 million tons are railway-related (16,450 railcars), and 566,000 tons (23,652 units) have to do with road transport (trucks and passenger vehicles).
