European Commissioner to visit Kazakhstan

(kazinform) - Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighborhood Policy, Benita Ferrero-Waldner will arrive in Kazakhstan today. The Commissioner is planning to have several meetings with Kazakh officials during her visit, reports Trend.

Benita Ferrero-Waldner, received a doctorate in law sciences from the University of Salzburg. Before she entered the diplomatic service Ferrero-Waldner was working in the private sector. One of her most influential positions was Chef de protocole for Secretary General Boutros-Ghali at the United Nations in New York. After that Ferrero-Waldner became a Minister for Foreign Affairs. In July 2004 she ran for Federal President with a support of the Austrian People's Party; her only opponent was Heinz Fischer; however, she lost the election.

During the meetings with Kazakh official representatives, the commissioner expressed an unalterable support on Kazakhstan's initiative to chair OSCE in 2009.
