The president of Kyrgyzstan Roza Otunbayeva signed a law on introduction of amendments to the republic’s Criminal Code adopted by Parliament on October 13, 2011, 24.kg news agency reported referring to the Spokesperson’s Office for the president for transitional period.

The president of Kyrgyzstan Roza Otunbayeva signed a law on introduction of amendments to the republic's Criminal Code adopted by Parliament on October 13, 2011, 24.kg news agency reported referring to the Spokesperson's Office for the president for transitional period.

The law proposes to increase punishment for the crime under paragraph 1 of Article 124 on "Human Trafficking" of the Criminal Code. When imposing a sentence of imprisonment the lower limit is 3 years, the highest - 8 years. The lower limit was increased from three to five years in prison. Thus this crime was transferred from the less grave crime category into the grave crime category.

The present law is coming into effect from the date of publication.
