About 2,000 U.S. soldiers use the Manas airport in Kyrgyzstan daily, KyrTAG reported with reference to the Council for Transparent Financial Activity of Manas transit centre.

"Soldiers fly to Afghanistan or back to the U.S. by using Manas," a representative of the Council Tattu Mambetaliyeva said.

About 1,300 U.S. soldiers hold constant military service and about 200 U.S. civilians work at the Manas, she added.

The transit centre provides for flights of only transport aircrafts and their refueling, Mambetaliyeva noted.

Transit Center at Manas, formerly Manas Air Base, is a United States military installation at Manas International Airport near the capital of Kyrgyzstan, primarily operated by the U.S. Air Force. The base was opened in December 2001 to support U.S. military operations in the ongoing war in Afghanistan.
