Kyrgyzstan reveals planned location for small NPP construction

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 29. Kyrgyzstan, in cooperation with Russia, plans to launch the construction of the 110 MW two-unit small nuclear power plant (NPP) in the Chui region of the country, Deputy Minister of Energy Sabyrbek Sultanbekov said, Trend reports via Kyrgyz media.

He made a remark following the 24th meeting of the Intergovernmental Kyrgyz-Russian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Humanitarian Cooperation held in Bishkek.

“Russian specialists visited Kyrgyzstan, went over several options. The NPP is expected to be constructed in the Chui region,” Sultanbekov said.

According to him, the joint team consisting of Russian Rosatom - State Atomic Energy Corporation, - and the Kyrgyz working group is engaging in the NPP construction at the moment.

He noted that there is also a public relations work currently underway.

Earlier, on January 20, 2022, Rosatom and the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan signed a memorandum of cooperation on the construction of small nuclear power plant in Kyrgyzstan.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the construction of the NPP will take from 6 to 7 years.
