BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 5. Kyrgyzstan generated 4.6 billion kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity from January through March 2023, which is 13 percent more than 4.1 billion kWh in the same period of 2022, Trend reports via the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan.
While Kyrgyzstan registered an increase in electricity generation in 1Q2023, the country produced 17 percent less electricity in March 2023 than in the corresponding month of 2022 – from 1.1 billion kWh to 917.3 million kWh.
According to the statistics, Kyrgyzstan imported 286.5 million kWh of electricity from January through February 2023, which is almost 36 percent less than in the corresponding period of 2022 (447.6 million kWh). During the period, electricity to Kyrgyzstan was supplied by Turkmenistan (62.5 million kWh) and Kazakhstan (224.5 million kWh).
Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan generated 13.8 billion kWh of electricity in 2022, which is a 9-percent decrease compared to 2021 (15.1 billion kWh).
The largest amount of electricity (11.5 billion kWh) was generated in Jalal-Abad region of the country, which is a decrease of 9 percent over 12.6 billion kWh in 2021.
