DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, October 30. Around 284,000 tons of cotton have been harvested in Tajikistan as of October 20, which is 18,000 tons less than the same period last year, Trend reports.
The Ministry of Agriculture in the country reports that due to weather conditions, the cotton harvest was delayed in the Sughd region and the districts under the republic's jurisdiction.
As a result, these regions are behind in cotton collection, with about 76,000 tons collected in the Sughd region (compared to 93,000 tons in the same period last year) and 3,000 tons collected in the districts under the republic's jurisdiction instead of 4,000 from the previous year.
According to the schedule, the primary cotton-producing areas in the Khatlon region have cultivated a harvest of around 206,000 tons, similar to the same period in 2022.
Farmers said that there is still plenty of cotton in the fields, and they aim to meet the projected target of 426,000 tons.
Tajikistan is currently in full swing with the harvest of agricultural crops. Due to climatic conditions, cotton and grain harvesting are delayed this year, and grape yields may be only one-third of last year's volume. However, potato and other vegetable, melon, and fruit production significantly exceeded last year's levels.
