The 16th session of the Turkmen parliament's fourth convocation will take place on October 19, an official Turkmen source reported on Wednesday.

Turkmen Speaker Akja Nurberdiyeva has recently informed the government on activity of national parliament.

It has been noted that new codes and laws are being developed, the acting legal acts are being amended. A number of draft laws have been developed and adopted during the reporting period.

In particular, the parliament prepared proposals for the assignment of names to a number of railway stations.

Turkmen President Gurbanguli Berdimuhamedow noted importance of parliament's activation in improvement of national legislation for planned development of social economic reforms.

The parliamentary term is five years.

According to the Turkmen constitution, the parliament passes laws, makes changes and additions to the Constitution.

It also considers issues the appointment and dismissal of the chief of the Supreme Court, attorney general, interior minister and minister of justice and ratifies and terminates international treaties, addresses issues on changes of state borders and the administrative-territorial division of Turkmenistan.
