President: Turkmenistan to continue to be involved in CIS affairs as its associate member
Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Dec.5 / Trend H. Hasanov /
As an associate member of the CIS, neutral Turkmenistan will continue to take an active part in the affairs of the Commonwealth, the Turkmen government quotes President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov as saying at a government meeting.
"As an associate member of the CIS, neutral Turkmenistan will further continue to take an active part in the affairs of the Commonwealth, to promote the progressive development of mutually beneficial partnership that meets the interests of the general welfare and prosperity," President Berdimuhammadov said.
Turkmenistan, referring to its permanent neutrality, recognized and supported by the UN, made a decision in 2005 to partake in the CIS structure as an associated member.
In 2012, Turkmenistan chaired the CIS and held about 30 events.
