Trend:

President of Afhganistan Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai will pay a state visit to Turkmenistan, RIA Novosti reported citing local media outlets.

The date of the visit hasn't been specified.

The issues related to the upcoming visit of Afghan president to Ashgabat were discussed at Turkmenistan's government meeting.

The agenda of the negotiations will include the key issues of Turkmen-Afghan relations, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov said during the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Jan.16.

It is planned to sign a package of bilateral documents following the negotiations.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov confirmed his country's consistent position with respect to the neighboring country. Turkmenistan assists Afghan people to create a peaceful and prosperous life and restore the socio-economic infrastructure.

"Neutral Turkmenistan stands for the settlement of the situation in Afghanistan only through peaceful, diplomatic means," Berdimuhamedov said.

Currently, a number of large infrastructure projects in energy and transport spheres, being implemented by Turkmenistan, are related to Afghanistan.

The construction of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway and creation of the infrastructure to increase the low-cost supplies of Turkmen electricity to neighboring Afghan provinces are among such projects.

Moreover, the construction of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline is one of the main projects.

Turkmenistan is interested in the implementation of this project which will allow the country to diversify the gas export.

It is planned to start the construction of the gas pipeline in 2015.
