Russia’s Gazprom company doesn’t plan for the present to resume the gas purchase from Turkmenistan, Valery Golubev, deputy chairman of the company’s management committee, told reporters, TASS reported.
Gazprom and Turkmenistan’s Turkmengas state concern earlier suspended the arbitration process as a result of the progress in the peaceful settlement of the dispute.
Since 2008, Gazprom has been trying to revise the price for the gas purchased from Turkmenistan. The company was buying 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year from Turkmenistan in accordance with the agreement signed in 2010.
After failing to reach an agreement with Turkmen side, Gazprom filed a lawsuit against Turkmengas at the international arbitration court in Stockholm in 2015 and demanded ensuring retroactive payments worth $5 billion for the Turkmen gas delivered in 2010-2015.
Gazprom also decided to reduce the volume of gas purchase from Turkmenistan to 4 billion cubic meters in 2015 and suspended the purchase in January 2016.
