BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 23. It is planned to open a logistics center in Turkmenistan Lotos special economic zone of the Astrakhan region of Russia, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen media.

The memorandum on its creation and the cooperation agreement was signed by Deputy General Director of Transport and Logistics Center of Turkmenistan JSC Merdan Byashimov, and head of Lotos JSC Sergey Milushkin, within the framework of the Turkmen-Russian business forum, which was held in the capital of Turkmenistan Ashgabat on January 19 through 20.

The parties agreed to increase cargo transportation along the International North-South Transport Corridor through the Caspian Sea and to launch an investment project to create a logistics center of Turkmenistan in the port special economic zone of the Caspian cluster. The combined cluster will become the cargo base of the transport corridor with a single management company.

According to Milushkin, the opening of the Turkmen logistics center in the special economic zone will be an important incentive for the development of cargo transportation from Central Asia to Russia and back, which will allow connecting other countries that do not have direct access to the Caspian Sea to the International North-South Transport Corridor.

Following the results of this forum, Turkmenistan and Russia signed 20 bilateral documents in the field of transport and logistics totaling more than $2 billion.
