Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung arrived in Uzbekistan on Sunday at the invitation of Uzbek Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyayev, a source in the government told Trend.
The visit is aimed at further strengthening the friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Uzbekistan. The Vietnamese Prime Minister was accompanied by a group of senior officials of the country.
According to the program of the visit, talks are planned to be held between the Uzbek and Vietnamese governments on Oct. 3 in the first half of the day . T he sides will discuss economic, trade and investment cooperation, and in particular issues of development in the oil and gas industry and agriculture.
Uzbek President Islam Karimov is expected to receive the Vietnamese Prime Minister in the afternoon.
Diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Vietnam were established in 1992, and are regulated by a number of documents including an agreement on the basis of bilateral relations and cooperation, intergovernmental agreements on mutual promotion and protection of investments, scientific and technical cooperation, cooperation in tourism, the establishment of an intergovernmental commission on trade-economic and scientific-technological cooperation.
At present, there are 15 enterprises with Vietnamese capital in Uzbekistan, including three companies with foreign capital. They operate in the silk industry, trade and public catering.
The volume of bilateral trade turnover amounted to $18.6 million in 2010, in January - June 2011 - $ 15.5 million.
