Uzbekistan sees increase in volume of melon production in 2022

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 14. Uzbekistan has shared data on the volume of melons and watermelons produced from January through December 2022, Trend reports via Uzbek State Statistics Committee.

According to the Committee, Uzbekistan produced more than 2.4 million tons of melons, increasing by 5.9 percent, compared to the reporting period in 2021.

Statistics note that most of the melons production went to dehkan farms (individual or family farms) and subsidiary farms – 42.9 percent, followed by farms – 53.3 percent, and organizations engaged in agricultural activities – 3.8 percent.

Furthermore, Uzbekistan exported 136,600 tons of melons and watermelons worth $37.2 million during the corresponding period. This figure increased by 63.9 percent compared to the figure for last year. Some 3.3 percent of the export share fell on melons.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan exported 1.7 million tons of fruit and vegetables worth $1.1 billion from January through December 2022. Fruit and vegetable exports increased by 18.5 percent compared to the corresponding period of last year.
