TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, December 1. Uzbekistan plans to increase the volume of copper production and processing by 20 percent in 2024, Trend repots.
The remark was made during the meeting between Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the representatives of the country’s regional administrations.
During the meeting, the participants stressed the need to expand Uzbekistan copper production to 140,000 tons.
In addition, the potential for copper exports was estimated at $1.5 billion, and in 2025 the country plans to reach the $2 billion mark in cooper exports.
Earlier this year, Uzbekistan has adopted the new country development strategy, which includes the increase of production of copper by 3.5 times by 2030.
As stated in the report by Uzbekistan’s Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (MMC), the company produces about 148,000 tons of copper per year, with 90,000 tons being exported, which comprises 70 percent of the total production volume.
