Iran's Zobahan cruises to AFC semis

Iran's Premier League leader Zobahan has defeated AFC Champions League title-holder Pohang Steelers from South Korea to reach the semifinal.

The Steelers went into Wednesday's match chasing a 2-1 deficit from the first leg against Zobahan. Things looked like an upset when Kim Jae-Sung pounced in the 10th minute to put the Korean side level on aggregate, Press TV reported.

With the deadlock unbroken late in the second-half, the match seemed destined for overtime until Zobahan's striker Mohammad Reza Khalatbari stunned the hosts ten minutes from time to put the Iranian outfit into the last four.

The only sour point for Zobahan was the dismissal of striker Mehdi Rajabzadeh in the last minutes of the game.

The Iranian team, coached by Mansour Ebrahimzadeh, must now take on Saudi's al-Hilal in the semifinal of the event.

The Saudi club scored twice in the last two minutes of overtime to defeat Qatar's al-Gharafa 5-4 on aggregate on the same day.

Another Saudi team, al-Shabab, clinched a place in the semifinal following its 2-1 victory against Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors of South Korea on aggregate.

Seongnam Ilhwa also took its fellow South Korean team, Suwon Bluewings, 4-3 on aggregate to face al-Shabab in the semifinal.
