Iran will launch the first LNG terminal in the Persian Gulf in two years, Managing Director of Iran's LNG Company Ali Kheirandish said, pananews.ir reported.
Kheirandish noted that the development of port infrastructure is underway to facilitate operation of LNG tankers.
"All necessary conditions will be created in the terminal to enable big LNG vessels to enter the terminal free, to get loaded and unloaded there," he said.
Furthermore, an LNG plant is under construction in Assalouyeh Energy Zone and the process of its construction is complete by 52 percent, Kheirandish added.
"The plant is expected to be constructed in two years if enough funds are attracted," he said.
Late September, Kheyrandish announced that Iran is currently negotiating with nine international companies to export LNG including Chinese, Indian, European, Southeast Asian, African, Venezuelan and Indonesian companies.
Iran aims to increase its share in the global gas market to 10 percent and become a major LNG supplier through the production of 70 million tons of liquefied natural gas by 2015.
