French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe on Wednesday called for the United Nations Security Council to meet to discuss action against Iran, after a UN report gave the clearest indications to date that Iran has been developing a nuclear weapon.

Juppe told Radio France Internationale that "tough sanctions" were needed, DPA reported.

"We are determined to act," he said, adding that France was prepared to go "much further" on sanctions.

Yukiya Amano, the chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said in the report published Tuesday: "The information indicates that Iran has carried out activities relevant to the development of nuclear explosive devices."
